Mays Jr, Elijah P.

CEO/Doctor

Growing up in Colleton County, South Carolina, Dr. Mays excelled in academics and athletics. Growing up in rural South Carolina shaped him in a way he didn’t realize until he began his journey in healthcare. Dr. Mays never thought or wanted to be involved in Nursing, but helping others came naturally.

Dr. Mays started his career in healthcare by working as a customer service representative at a small HMO. Later, he worked as a Medicare/Medicaid Biller for a hospital system in South Carolina. As the billing office was taken over by an outside company, he managed to befriend a unit secretary who was willing to mentor him if he decided to make the change.

For about 3 years, Dr. Mays worked as a Unit Secretary on a telemetry floor where he learned how to communicate and interact with patients, families, and his fellow co-workers. On this journey while working as a Unit Secretary, he was taught how to start IVs, properly apply soft wrist restraints, and perform several tasks that were outside of his scope as a Unit Secretary. Dr. Mays didn’t know that training would serve him well in nursing school and in his career.

After constant nagging, Dr. Mays family and co-workers, he finally decided to pursue Nursing and the rest is history. Dr. Mays wished he could say that he always wanted to do this or that he always dreamed of doing this, but unfortunately that is not his story. Dr. Mays path to this destination was not straight. His path always seemed to meander and there were some tough life lessons along the way, but he persevered and here he stands! Dr. Mays is very excited to have the opportunity to help his partners, not patients, to improve their health.
